Architects, Registered Interior Designers and Engineers are among the professions exempt from the contractor licensing law.
The exemptions do have some limitations and restrictions.  These professionals should consult their legal consultant to determine what is their permitted scope of work if they have any question.

Applicability of the $10,000 or 25% Rule to Exempt Professions.

The $10,000 or 25% rule does NOT apply to Architects, Registered Interior Designers and Engineers.  These professionals are exempt.  They are NOT specialty contractors.  Registered interior designers who are also residential kitchen and bath designers/installers may fall within the listing for that specialty.  I would be very wary however of combining the work of a Registered Interior Designer as may be permitted under their licensing rules and the residential kitchen and bath designers/installers into a single project or property.  If you have questions or concerns, I am available to discuss
